The State of Michigan has received a U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration (DHHS-HRSA) grant for a 2004/2005 State Planning Project for the Uninsured. The overarching goal of Michigan’s Project is to develop a plan that puts forth a set of realistic strategies and viable options that will lead to health insurance coverage for all Michigan residents and promote an understanding of uninsurance issues among key stakeholders and policy makers. Michigan’s Project is working with the Alliance for Health here in Grand Rapids to hold a town hall meeting to build consensus and to encourage dialogue among providers, policy makers, purchasers and the community at-large. The Alliance for Health has been conducting planning meetings for this town hall meeting which includes area organizations including GRAAHI. To find out further information on what each state is doing regarding coverage for the uninsured, go to www.statecoverage.net. Watch for further information on the upcoming town meeting.
